Ceramic vs Tourmaline Flat Irons

Image
Picking out a flat iron used to be easy, but as technology gets more advanced and we've begun to see names like ceramic or titanium flat iron it's not surprising that a lot of women are raising an eyebrow. It sounds all nice and fancy schmancy, but seriously, what the heck does it even mean? And is it really worth the extra cash?! I did a little research to figure it out. Ceramic irons have ceramic plates and provide even heating making it less damaging than the metals traditionally used in flat irons. Ceramic irons release negative ions which when heated can actually help seal the cuticle and give the hair a healthy looking shine.  Titanium irons have a very smooth surface and keep the temperature of the flat iron stable and even throughout. Titanium releases even more negative ions than ceramic flat irons and as a result the hair will be shinier. Although any kind of heat styling can cause damage, I've found that ceramic and titanium flat irons are defini...

12 Best and Worst Summer Hair Care Products

Image
Summertime is an invitation for a more lackadaisical approach to hair care (hallelujah!). It means maybe letting bangs grow into a long cheek-bone-length layer; not being in curly or wavy hair denial anymore (well, at least for a few months anyway) by skipping the blow dryer and letting hair air-dry; rocking summer-appropriate updos and braids; getting beach hair from actually going to the beach; and covering up three-day unwashed hair with hats and scarves. But with this season also comes certain hair hazards like chlorine, UV rays, salt water and humidity -- all which can lead to pool-hair, fried scalps and frizzy, dried out hair.  See the best and worst summer hair care products now.

Put Frizz In It's Place!

Image
I hate frizz with a passion! I could go on for hours on how much I dislike it, but I'll spare you.  Frizz is caused by breakage in the hair, which can be cause by a lot of things. - Brushing hair too much - Brushing hair when it's wet - Rubber bands with the metal piece - Rubbing wet hair with a towel - Thinning shears or cutting the hair with a razor - Blow dryers, curling irons, flat irons, etc. Well the best offense is a good defense, right? Here's how I would recommend you defend yourself from the frizzies: - Always rinse hair with the coldest water that you can stand. This will seal the cuticle making the hair look shinier and less frizzy. - Keep brushing to a minimum. When you do brush, try using a wide-tooth comb--especially when wet-- this will be a lot less damaging to your hair. - Avoid those rubber bands with the metal piece. If you have to tie up your hair, try a scrunchie instead! - Blot your hair dry instead of rubbing it with a towel, which...

Keratin Hair Treatments: The Answer to All My Problems?

Image
The quest for perfect hair seems like a never ending battle. Products everywhere claim that they will solve all your hair problems, but I have yet to find one that actually will (if you happen to know of one, please tell me :D.) But there is a new process that has caught my eye... keratin hair treatments. What do keratin hair treatments do? Keratin hair treatments involve a process that can get rid of up to 99% of frizz, straighten hair, make hair soft & shiny, and protect the hair from toxins like UV rays, smoke, & pollution. How does this process do it? Wow! This really does seem like the end to my hair battle? Well, keratin is what hair (and nails) are naturally made up of. When we use styling tools, expose hair to chemical processes and toxins in the environment, the keratin in your hair becomes less effective at its job (keeping your hair strong and looking healthy.) Where can I get it and how much will it hurt my wallet? You can get it at a salon and it shou...
